The Piloncito is an independent money and markets publication for Filipinos. We publish in-depth, data-driven guides on stablecoins, crypto, OFW remittances, savings and investments, and global derivatives, written in plain English and free of conflicts of interest.

Why “Piloncito”?

The piloncito was the first money of the Philippines: small stamped gold beads used by the precolonial kingdoms of Butuan and Tondo between the 10th and 13th centuries, often marked with the baybayin character “ma”. Long before the peso, Filipinos already traded with their own gold. That is the spirit of this publication: Filipino money, global markets.

Editorial approach

Every article is built on primary data: BSP reference rates and statistics, PSA inflation figures, PSE market data, Pag-IBIG MP2 dividend history, CoinGecko market prices, and SEC advisories. We contextualize global numbers for Philippine readers, and we update our guides when the data changes. We do not sell financial products, and we do not earn commissions from brokers, exchanges, banks, or fund managers.

What we cover

Our five editorial pillars reflect the real journey of Filipino money: remittances sent home by OFWs, the savings rate war among digital banks, the rise of USDT and USDC as the digital dollar, crypto after the Binance ban, investing through the PSE and beyond, and the mechanics of leverage and global derivatives.

Independence

The Piloncito is not affiliated with any bank, exchange, brokerage, or e-wallet operating in the Philippines. All content is educational and is not investment advice. Every investment carries risk; the final decision is always yours.
